Traffic Calming

Traffic Calming

Like many other municipalities, Glen Rock has long had a traffic problem exacerbated by narrow streets and steep hills.  We have started a traffic calming project to try to mitigate some of the issues as best we can with the space and resources available to the Borough.  We have consulted with several agencies and met on site with a traffic engineer provided through a PennDOT program.  Our next step is a Borough traffic calming policy, currently under development, which will provide a long range plan for our traffic issues.  We will continue to work on this important issue.

We have also met with another PennDOT engineer regarding the truck restriction signage on Church St.  New signs where installed in May 2018.  We hope the new signs will deter more trucks from using Church St as a through street.  We have also asked SRPD to enforce the new signs.  We are trying to get additional restrictions on Church street (truck/trailer combinations, RVs).  So far, PennDOT has not been helpful but we will continue to pursue this issue.

The Borough purchased a Radar Speed Sign to warn motorists of their speed.  We rotate the sign through several locations around the Borough.  Data collected shows that the sign is effective in slowing traffic.
