Traffic Signal Upgrade

Traffic Signal Upgrade

Glen Rock has been awarded a $75,344 grant to replace our ancient traffic signal.  The funding comes from PennDOT’s Automated Red Light Enforcement (ARLE) program.  (No, we are not getting red light cameras in Glen Rock!)  We have signed the documents with PennDOT and are starting the project through the Borough engineer.  We have had several meetings to determine the best placement for the new signal light poles.  This is actually a very difficult part of the project due to the close proximity of buildings and water/sewer lines.

Update 6/19:  The project cost has increased immensely due to updated PennDoT requirements which include the upgrade of the pedestrian crosswalks to be fully ADA compliant.  The new estimated project cost is $220500.  We are applying for another ARLE grant to cover this increased cost.

Update 2/20:  We have indications that the Borough will receive an ARLE grant for almost $205,000.  We are also working with our engineer and traffic engineer on ways to preserve our historic 4-way Eagle stop light.  This will help preserve the look of downtown.  The American Streetscape Society is helping with this effort.

Update 12/20:  We have been awarded the ARLE grant for nearly $205,000!!  Work will begin in earnest next year.
